ithaca downtown, ny

canopy by hilton:Canopy by Hilton Ithaca Downtown runs a genuinely solid 24-hour fitness center — TechnoGym equipment, a Peloton bike, treadmills, and free weights — so training doesn't need to work around hotel hours. There's no pool or spa here, matching the boutique scale of the property. The Strand Café handles breakfast and dinner with fresh, locally sourced ingredients and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Ithaca Commons. Every room includes a real built-in refrigerated drawer, not just a minibar, useful for anyone stocking up between training sessions. Complimentary Canopy bikes are included with the stay, ready for exploring downtown or heading toward the gorges.

Ithaca's terrain is genuinely unusual for a downtown hotel base — gorges, waterfalls, and serious elevation change are all within a short walk or bike ride. The Cascadilla Gorge Trail is the standout: a dramatic, mostly-stone-stairs route climbing between downtown and the Cornell campus, with waterfalls and sheer rock walls the entire way. Six Mile Creek and the wider Cornell-area hills add further options for anyone who wants sustained climbing or trail mileage beyond the gorge itself. Between the hotel's own bikes and this network of gorge trails right outside the door, Ithaca offers some of the most distinctive outdoor training terrain anywhere in this portfolio.

TRAIN LOCAL

Finger Lakes Fitness Center — 171 E State St, walkable, same street as the hotel. A welcoming, locally owned, 24-hour gym in the heart of downtown Ithaca, with single-day passes available for visitors. The everyday option, and about as close as it gets.

The Gym – East Hill — 323 Pine Tree Road, short drive near Cornell. A serious 24/7 strength-focused facility with power racks, deadlift platforms, and a dedicated functional training area, well-reviewed for its equipment quality and welcoming community. A strong second option for guests who want heavier lifting equipment.

★ DESTINATION GYM: Cascadilla Gorge Trail
A dramatic, roughly 1.3-mile trail climbing about 400 feet from downtown Ithaca to the Cornell campus, following a historic set of stone stairs and paths built in the late 1920s past eight waterfalls. Known locally as "the staircase" for the grueling climb as much as the tumbling cascades. The lower trailhead at Treman Triangle Park is close to downtown and walkable from the hotel. Note: the lower gorge section closes seasonally for icy conditions (roughly late November through April) and during high water — check current status before a winter visit.
