SORREL RIVER RANCH
MOAB, UT
SORREL RIVER RANCH RESORT & SPA: Sorrel River Ranch runs a 24-hour fitness center with cardio and free weights, plus complimentary Pilates, yoga, and meditation classes that meet right there. The spa adds a sauna, steam room, and a fireplace treatment room, and every cabin comes with a kitchenette — fridge and microwave included. Dining runs through the River Grill, farm-to-table using produce grown on the resort's own 240 acres.
This is a working ranch built for outdoor training — horseback riding, off-roading, guided hikes, and Colorado River rafting are all arranged on-site, with tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts to round things out. For serious mountain biking, Sorrel's own team points guests to the Slickrock Trail, the internationally famous 10.6-mile loop over Navajo sandstone in Moab's Sand Flats Recreation Area — one of the most demanding and iconic rides in the country.
In winter, the La Sal Mountains — about an hour from the ranch — open up cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on groomed trails at Geyser Pass, with backcountry ski and splitboard terrain for more experienced guests. It's a genuinely different side of Moab that most visitors never see, since the desert floor rarely holds snow even when the mountains are buried in it.

★ DESTINATION GYM: SLIMROCK TRAIL
An internationally famous 10.6-mile loop across rolling Navajo sandstone in Moab's Sand Flats Recreation Area, roughly 20-25 miles from the ranch. Originally cut for motorcycles, it's now one of the most iconic and technically demanding mountain bike rides in the world — steep climbs, steep descents, and a genuine full-body endurance test. A 2.3-mile Practice Loop near the trailhead is worth doing first.
★ DESTINATION GYM: GEYSER PASS WINTER SPORTS AREA, LA SAL MOUNTAINS
About an hour from the ranch, the La Sal Mountains hold onto snow the desert floor never sees. Geyser Pass offers groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails, with backcountry ski and splitboard terrain beyond for more experienced guests. A genuinely different, largely undiscovered side of Moab — worth flagging that this is backcountry/Nordic terrain rather than a lift-served resort, so it suits guests looking for a real winter outing rather than downhill skiing.
